What is IGBT?

IGBT is the English word Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor, and its Chinese meaning is insulated gate bipolar transistor.

??Functionally, IGBT is a circuit switch, and its advantages are voltage control, low saturation voltage drop and high withstand voltage. Used for high voltage with voltage of tens to hundreds of volts and current of tens to hundreds of amperes. In addition, IGBT is controlled by computer and has no mechanical buttons. Therefore, with the IGBT switch, a circuit can be designed, which is controlled by a computer, and can turn AC power into DC power at a given voltage, or all kinds of electricity into AC power with required frequency for the load to use. Such circuits are collectively referred to as converters.

IGBT (insulated gate bipolar transistor), insulated gate bipolar transistor, is a composite fully controlled voltage driven power semiconductor device composed of BJT (Bipolar Transistor) and MOS (Insulated Gate Field Effect Transistor), which has the advantages of high input impedance of MOSFET and low turn-on voltage of GTR. GTR saturation voltage decreases, current-carrying density is high, but driving current is high. MOSFET has low driving power and fast switching speed, but it has large switching voltage drop and low current-carrying density. Combining the advantages of the above two devices, IGBT has low driving power and low saturation voltage. It is very suitable for converter systems with DC voltage of 600V and above, such as AC motor, frequency converter, switching power supply, lighting circuit, traction drive and other fields.IGBT module is a modular semiconductor product which is packaged by IGBT (insulated gate bipolar transistor chip) and FWD (free-wheeling diode chip) through special circuit bridge. The packaged IGBT module is directly applied to inverter, uninterruptible power supply and other equipment.

IGBT module has the characteristics of energy saving, convenient installation and maintenance, stable heat dissipation, etc. At present, most of these modular products are sold in the market, and IGBT modules are also commonly called IGBT modules. With the promotion of the concept of energy conservation and environmental protection, such products will become more and more common in the market;IGBT is the core equipment of energy conversion and transmission, commonly known as "CPU" of power electronic equipment. As a national strategic emerging industry, IGBT is widely used in rail transit, smart grid, aerospace, electric vehicles, new energy equipment and other fields.
